Live Video 25-06-2009 Rumours go, that Professor Peter suffered from a severe 'I need holidays' syndrome. He was seen on the Côte d'Azur in southern France asking the Jetset about Small Instruments. Immediately after his return proof of his renewded vigour and spirit was found on Youtube. New vids of the Professor and Doctor have been uploaded by the Prof himself. Coffee Concert 21-02-2009 Every concert has its own atmosphere. On saturday februari 21th Professor Peter and Doctor Dick played a 'Coffee Concert' in the Catharinakapel in Harderwijk. This does not mean they played music on coffee drums or sprayed the audience with black fluids. It means the concert started at about 'coffee time' which is 11 am in the Netherlands.
This particular venue is one of the favorite spots for Professor Peter and Doctor Dick.
"A small place and a small audience perfect for a small concert with small instruments", was Professor
Peter's witty remark. "This place used to be a chapel, and part of a convent", Doctor Dick
taught the listeners. "Luckily the nuns have left as their 'cornettes' would have spoiled the
view for the other members of the audience." You can get a glimpse in this video.
Doctor Dick going electric? 24-05-2009 >
Techno and Trance, Electro and Dance: the future vocabulary of the UkeAcademic Doctor Dick?
Just before leaving and while saying goodbye to all the friends and Ukulele aficionados at the Ukulele Hotspot 2009
of Winterstwijk, Doctor Dick was offered a set of electronic MiniDrums by
Hans Thüuring (famous Hotspot visitor and
builder of cigarbox ukuleles, red).
It is moreoften said in certain circles around the Doc, that he can not keep his hands from the buttons
and sliders of electrical equipment. Professor Peter found no harm in this: "Obviously this is a Small Instrument",
was his comment.
Doctor Dick Gaat Electric? 24-05-2009 >
First Dutch Ukulele Festival in headlines 17-05-2009 The First Dutch Ukuele Festival in Winterswijk on Mai 23, which was mentioned some time ago in this paper, has reached the headlines of all the local newsmedia in the east of the Netherlands. Here some examples: Omroep Gelderland, Winterswijk.org, and de Streekgids. The organisation admitted to be very pleased with this massive media attention. New Panorama Room 05-04-2009 During a short and sober ceremony, Professor Peter and Doctor Dick presented their new Panoramaroom. They said to be proud of the flashy inventory. The savants admitted the champagne glasses at the reception were rather small. "Even for a Small Instrument Society, this is a disappointing trend" one of them said. When the other added: "Escpeccially at a moment of economical crisis when, as history learns, the best of small instruments are invented, one should have a decent drink to the occasion!" Dutch Ukelelefestival 14-02-2009
The Ukulele Hotspot Winterswijk of 2008 was a great succes.
Being the man with the Great Ideas about Small Instruments, Doctor Dick suggested
a Small Uke Festivel would be nice for 2009. Today the Doc showed the world the official
Festival poster of the First Dutch Ukulele Festival.
The festival wil take place on the night of 23th of May in the centre of Winterswijk.
Line up: Ukuele Hotspot Orchestra; Fritz; Route 66; Simpel; Professor Peter and Doctor Dick.
A detailed report of this festival wil follow in your favorite Ukepaper.
Happy Ukethousendandnine 31-12-2008 From the very heart of the Small Instrument Society, Professor Peter and Doctor Dick wish you many happy moments in 2009, preferably playing your small instruments!! Tiny Tim 17-12-2008
A fellow member of the Order Of The Fez (to be exact, Fez #22) proved to be so
kind as to send an original 'Remembrance Card, from Tiny Tim's funeral. Click the
card to see both front and backside. On receiving the card, the Professor
and the Doctor were silent for a minute, contemplating the importance of their collegue
Tiny Tim.
Fez #22 of the OOTF is congratulated, as he succeeded in shutting the mouth of
the Prof and the Doc at the same time and during more than 25 seconds.
Anthem of the OOTF 03-12-2008
By entering the exclusive circles of the Order Of The Fezz,
Professor Peter and Doctor Dick knew they would be expected to give their
interpretation of the OOTF's Anthem. And so they did! A first time live
performance can be seen and heard
here and at the
site of the OOTF
Space, mine or yours? 03-12-2008 Allthough members of the Small Instrument Society, Professor Peter and Doctor Dick needed more Space. "It totally depends upon the number of Small Instruments", the Doctor said during a pressconference, earlier today. Professor Peter officially announced the opening of an Annex called "Myspace". After that a fifteen minute debate followed, between the savants, as Doctor Dick wanted to be shure is was also "Hisspace". You can follow these instructions to find the Extraspace New Songs on their way 02-11-2008 Our reporter, used to regular skoops, has not heard much lately, concerning Prof Peter and Doctor Dick. A thorough survey of the Small Instrument Society's premises made clear that the founding members remain in their studio frequently. It seems that new songs are being recorded. Some samples can be heard in the audio room already, though the final mix is yet to be made. The duo admitted that some fifteen songs are to be recorded yet. Professor Peter told us that a new version of the Order Of The Fez Anthem is included Next door to the audioroom, in the video room on a large screen three new video's can be seen. New in the Hall Of Names 10-10-2008
A couple of days ago Doctor Dick was greatly surprised as he walked into the Hall of Names
(left from the entrance in the Small Instrument Society). Two new pictures were nailed to the wall.
Without having to take his spectacles off he immediately recognised
the old spice boys and the charming Ginette Machin
Ofcourse they are welcome guests and can hang there as long as they like.
Order Of The Fez 09-06-2008
Wearing a Fez is an act not lightly taken on by Professor Peter and Doctor Dick. It takes some decent preparation, of
which obtaining a Fez is quite elementary. It is very well understandable that being informed (by the honored wearer
of the Fez, Howlin'Hobbit) of the existance of the Order Of The Fez (OOTF) was today's top experience. It has to be said,
that acknowledgement of the whistle used by soccer referees, as a Small Instrument reached a good second place.
In the meantime news has come around that the two savants have been accepted into the Brotherhood of the Fez.
For those who got curious, the OOTF can be found here: OOTF German Festival made it 08-28-2008 The Small Instrument Society has done it's inspecting work fast, silent and very well. The European Ukulelefestival in Gross-Umstadt, Germany has indeed been officially acknowledged as "Promotor of the Small Instrument". As this is the first time such an important fact occurs, the members of the SIS are pondering the question what the imlications will be on future ukulele festivals. They said that organisers of small festivals are advised to inquire in an early stage whether the Professor and the Doctor will be available for a personal visit.
workshop hand-out 08-25-2008 The workshop of Prof Peter and Doc Dick, as given during the Uke Festival in Gross-Umstadt, Germany can be downloaded as a pdf file from here: in one click European Ukulele Festival 07-24-2008 The first European Ukukele Festival in Germany on 22, 23 and 24 of August is getting closer. Professor Peter and Doctor Dick are preparing themselves thoroughly. The Doc has cleaned the earpeaces of his stethoscoop and the prof polished his magnifying-glass. Some heavyduty inspection will have to take place in order to grant the festival's organising committee the official recognition of "Promotors of Small Instruments". The committee works hard for it, but... the Small Instrument Society has to be severe. The outcome of the inspection will be published in this paper after the festival. The Doctor has indeed been asked to do the presentation of the Open Stage. Rumours say this is a trick played by the organisation to keep him from his duty as an inspector of the SIS. Until now there has been no evidence found in that direction. Rumours about German Uke festival 06-25-2008 In circels around the German Ukulele Club rumours are heard, that presentation of the Open Stage on saturday, is given into the hands of a mystery guest. Some whispers are heard of a certain Doc D. We will inform you when more details are available. Winterswijk got his Orchestra
06-16-2008
"It did work out brilliantly" was the comment of both Prof Peter and
Doc Dick, after the successfull performance of the Ukulele Hotspot Orchestra
of Winterswijk on the 14th of June.
The picture shows the impressive lineup. We heard this Orchestra has plans for the future, which
we are sorry to say, are not revealed yet.
Small Instrument from a Small Island 05-17-2008 Professor Peter found himself in a kind of heaven, when he entered a small shop in the small town of St Cruz on the small island of La Palma. Especially the discovery of the TIMPLE made him jump up and kick his heels. After introducing himself as a Member of the Small Instrument Society, Professor Peter was introduced by the shopowner to the world of the traditional instruments of the Canary Islands. You can guess the result: the Timple was officially acknowledged as a Small Instrument. Ofcourse a sample was taken home by the Prof. The shop can be found on the web:www.momentoslapalma.com
Ukes for Peace 04-10-2008 Paul Moore, a uke player involved in many music projects has entered the Hall of Names. He is a man with a mission. Take a look on his personal webpage: www.paulmooremusic.com and let yourself be informed about his appealing project: www.ukulelesforpeace.com. Orchestra has a Name! 03-28-2008 A name has been found for the Uke orchestra that will perform in Winterswijk on the 14th of June.(see also item below) Behind the screens two of the initiators have discussed the options and came up with: Ukulele Hotspot Orchestra. Hopefully the idea of forming occasional uke orchestras will be followed. Add the name of a city where the Hotspot is held and you've got a name! Ukulele Hotspot Orchestra Winterswijk is taking the lead. The CD is ready
03-05-2008 Fourteen songs written between 1898 and 1920, joined by two tunes of their own hand. That is what you get on Prof Peter's and Doc Dick's new CD. Everything on this CD is handmade: arrangements, playing, recording, mastering, coverdesign, even burning the CD and printing of the covers. "Lots of work but great fun to see it getting shape" commentated the tired looking savants. In the proces of recording, they got the kind help of "Joost" on the thrombone. He ran away after two songs, as the Doc and the Prof wanted to cut a piece from his instrument. For them it was a trifle too big for a Small Instrument. Captain Kazoo Smallest Jugband On Earth 02-03-2008 As they already use a very very small Washboard and Jug, for the Doc and Prof, the introduction of the BabyUke led to the idea of forming the "Smallest Jugband On Earth" or shortly SJOE. Visiting the site of Captain Kazoo brought some inspiration. Rumour has it, that a highly specialised technician from the south of the Netherlands is asked to make a Awfully Small Kazoo. Our local reporter will shurely try to get you some updates on a short notice A Baby Uke is Born
01-14-2008 Brueko, the German ukebuilders have produced the prototype of a
MiniUke, or BabyUke. Prof Peter tried it, fell in love and bought it. This pic shows the smallest member
of the Brueko family (it's a GIRL!) together with the largest one: the Bariton.
Both of them can be heard in the audio room. The BabyUke features on "I bought a carpet in Cairo" and the Bariton
takes his role as Bass-o-lele on "Hello my Baby"
SIS revealed! 01-01-2008 A new room has been opened in the stately mansion of the Small Instrument Society: the Gossip Room. We, Professor Peter and Doctor Dick have been thinking for a long time about ways to inform our visitors. What better means of informing people, than a newspaper?! So come and see every now and than for actual news, trivia, gossip and rumours. |
